109 Mill Plain Rd.

The Branford Fire Department responded to 109 Mill Plain Rd. this afternoon at 4:48pm.  Upon arrival there was heavy fire visible from the second floor of two story “Colonial” style home.  The occupants had escaped the fire unharmed.  Fire crews from Engine-1 entered the structure and found heavy fire conditions on the second floor.

Congratulations Captain Rebmann!

Congratulations to Mike Rebmann on his promotion to the rank of Captain of Training. Mike Became a Captain after many years in the fire service, most of them with the Branford Fire Department. Mike started out as an explorer with the B.F.D. in 1986. Mike became a Firefighter in 1987 with volunteer Engine 9 and Rescue 1, growing to the rank of Lieutenant.

December 2013 Firefighter Mark Testa was promoted to the rank of Director of E.M.S. a newly created position within the Branford Fire Dept. Mark brings not only 9 years of Branford Fire experience but 27 years overall in E.M.S. starting back to Ace ambulance in Fairfield Ct as an E.M.T.  Director Test’s daily duties would include restock\resupply of all E.M.S.

Short Beach Road 1/4/2014

On 1/4/2014 at approx. 15:12 Branford Fire Department was dispatched to 120 Short Beach Rd. (Harbor Village Condos) for a reported structure fire. Eng 1, 2, 4, Trk 1, Medic 1, Car 6, Rsq 1 on initial assignment. Car 6 reported smoke in a building upon arrival and requested a line to be stretched. Additional units requested, East Haven Eng. 1 (Local 1205) to stand by Fireheadquarters.

For the month of October members of the Branford Professional Firefighters will be wearing breast cancer awareness t-shirts in support  of the women who were and are battling this disease. We feel that this is an extremely worthy cause, and with more recognition and support hopefully we can help continue to fight this battle that plagues many in this state\country.

Rest in Peace October 22 2014 Fire Chief Robert Czerwinski is sorry to report the death of Deputy Fire Chief Bruce Kilmer, who died this morning at Berkshire Medical Center.  Deputy Chief Kilmer experienced a cardiac arrest while off-duty.  Valiant efforts to resuscitate him by both his partner Chrissie  and the Lee Ambulance Squad were to no avail.

The first confirmed case in North America was recently reported in Dallas, Texas, where the 9-1-1 system was used to treat and transport the patient to the hospital. The patient has since died.
