Municipal Service Award- Al Nenninger

On April 15, 2009 One of Branford’s bravest received an award commending him on 30 years of service.  Allyn Nenninger, a 30+ year veteran of both the police and fire departments for the town of Branford, received a Municipal Service award from the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities.  It was presented by Branford first selectmen Anthony “unk” Daross.  Allyn began his civil service career in 1968 as a volunteer for Indian Neck fire co. Engine 9.  In 1974 he took the civil service exam.  He scored # 3 overall for fire service but was offered a full time position as a Police Officer.  He graduated  the police academy in 1976.  This was an interim position until the fire department position was available.  During his years as a police officer Al was a patrolman, he served on the SRT team, he was the head of K-9 and he served on the boat patrol.  In 1985 Al received a call for a full time position in the fire service.  Al accepted this position and left the police department after 9 years of service.  He was hired by Chief Peter Mullen.  Al stands as one of the most respected firefighters in Branford Fire Department.  He currently is assigned to Engine 1 as pump operator.  This is a highly respected and instrumental component to a fire department. Congratulations Al.  You have provided 3 decades of service to the towns’ people of Branford and the citizens of Connecticut.

Branford FD dontates to community

Branford (WTNH) - Branford firefighters responded to a different kind of call Wednesday, one that was still very helpful. They helped out with the cooking, serving and cleaning at the Community Dining Room.Because of the tight economy, the Dining Room is seeing more people in need of food these days. But, it’s getting less in the way of donations. For the firefighters, it’s a chance to give back to their community in a different way.”They don’t really see us, they might see a fire engine racing by, but they don’t get to see us,” said Tom Mahoney, Dep. Chief of the Branford Fire Department . “This is a good way of getting out into the community and getting people to know us and be part of the community we serve.”In addition to helping out in the kitchen, the Branford Professional Firefighters Association also donated $1,000 to the Community Dining Room.Branford Firefighters Proudly Support our TroopsRed Shirt Friday- Members of Branford Fire Department, Local 2533 proudly display their support for our troops.
