Car Seat Installation C.H.A.D. Program
The Local 2533 firefighters offer free car seat installation and inspection for those new parents with anxiety about proper seat placement. NHTSA claims that as much as 82% of all car seats are improperly installed. The firefighters conducting the install are certified child passenger safetly technicians (certification requires completion of a 32-hour training course). To ensure rapid identification of children in vehicular emergencies, parents and guardians of small children are encouraged to fill out the information on the sticker and place it on the right front corner (child’s right), under the cushion or center back of the child’s safety car seat.

Educational Smoke Trailer Pre-school Programs
The smoke trailer is available on-location to teach children and adults about fire safety. This exciting opportunity teaches the importance of fire safety in the home. Experience what it feels like to be in a burning building. By utilizing non-toxic smoke, the simulation will suggest how to get out safely. Children ages 3-5 are educated on the importance of fire safety, poison prevention, car seats, and booster seats. These fun and informative programs often incorporate hands-on activities.

Truck Visits Fire Station Tours
Area schools may request a visit from the Fire Department as part of their fire safety curriculum. Firefighters discuss fire safety, show the fire engine and explain the use of equipment. The firefighters will conduct a tour of the fire station, discuss their duties and responsibilities, and present the fire equipment. The trucks will also be a part of the tour as well as specialized gear. Tours are generally one hour in length and are recommended for ages 4 and up.
