The Branford Fire Department is staffed by trained firefighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics.  Many are involved with special units that handle technical rescue and hazardous materials.If you're just beginning to think about a career in firefighting you probably have lots of questions about the profession. If you're already a firefighter and are looking to join the Branford Fire Department, you'll find information about our hiring policies and the application process.Firefighter Recruitment To be eligible for employment as a firefighter for The Branford Fire Department, you must meet the following certifications:
  • Firefighter level I
  • Certified Emergency Medical Technician Basic level
  • Valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) card issued by the Connecticut Fire Academy.
  • Candidate’s who are not licensed as Paramedics, must complete an approved Paramedic course within 2 years of hire and gain medical control from New Haven Sponsor Hospital.

Schedule

Branford Fire Department is staffed 24 hours a day 365 days a year.  It is comprised of one day shift and four divisions.  The day shift operates from 8:00am to 4:30pm (Monday - Friday) and consists of three firefighter/medical personnel.  The four divisions work 24 hour shifts every fourth day.  Each division has two officers (a Deputy Chief and a Captain) and five firefighter/medical personnel.
